I would have a hot water heater and a heating system that ran on wood, which means that if my power went out, I would have no worries in the world
Furnaces are the worst. Okay, maybe they aren’t the worst when compared to all of the evil things in the world. But if you were honest with yourself, you could probably force yourself to admit that furnaces are a little more hassle than what they are worth. Furnaces do an important function in your house. They keep your house warm throughout the day with very little thought or action on your part. Furnaces are amazing until they stop working! Furnaces are a very expensive item in your house, and paying an HVAC technician is no cheap task either. HVAC technicians can charge upwards of $100 per hour to fix your furnace for you. Also, when your power goes out, your furnace goes out with it. You are left stranded if anything happens to your electricity, which actually isn’t very uncommon. This is why I am considering getting rid of my furnace. Rather than using an electric furnace, I plan to switch to an external wood boiler. This would allow me to use wood to heat my home, and it will also allow me to use the wood boiler to heat my water. I would have a hot water heater and a heating system that ran on wood, which means that if my power went out, I would have no worries in the world. I would be able to have fuel on hand at all times! The wood boiler system would cost me $6000 to own, but I think that it will be worth it in the long haul. No furnace for me!
