As the afternoon locker room attendant at the fitness center, I make sure to be the best they’ve ever seen
When I moved, I started looking for a job in a fitness center as a personal trainer. I had worked as a personal trainer for two years in a small town. I moved to the west coast area with some friends. We thought it would be fun to live near the beach and spend dime surfing the waves. I had plenty of money saved before starting this new adventures. That was helpful, because it took me nearly four months to land a job. I hoped that working at the fitness center would allow me to build up a client list and eventually work on my own. My efforts to get a job as a personal trainer were more difficult than I anticipated. In the city area, it became obvious that I needed to know someone who knew someone to get a job at the local fitness clubs. The only position I could find in the fields was the afternoon time shift as a locker room attendant. I didn’t want to take the job, but I figured it was the best way to get my foot in the door. It’s not an exactly fun or fulfilling job. It was the only position I could find in the industry. I was unhappy settling for a job as a waitress or bartender, so I am now doing my best to work my way up to a better position. As the afternoon locker room attendant at the fitness center, I make sure to be the best they’ve ever seen. I plan to get distinguished as employee of the month, and hopefully transition into the next step. Even working the smoothie bar at the gym would be better.
