I read online that a smart thermostat learns your heating and cooling behaviors.
It then creates a schedule so that you don’t even have to touch it to change to heating or cooling.
The thermostat also alerts you on air filter changes and energy efficient settings. All of this sounds fine and dandy. I think I am too dumb for the smart thermostat. First, the HVAC program it learned is totally wrong. For some reason my thermostat thinks I want to have no heating around 3am in the winter. It also thinks to turn on the AC around 3 in the afternoon. I have tried adjusting the temperature accordingly and hoping my thermostat will learn. No such luck there. I realized that I don’t really have any wild HVAC demands either. I always want my entire house at 74 degrees. If that is heating or cooling, I don’t really care. I have tried to manually override the set schedule with no such luck. Since the thermostat refuses to listen to my HVAC demands, I ignore its air filter changes. Why should I make it happy if it won’t make me happy? I will say the energy efficient settings are super annoying too. If I dare leave the house the thermostat automatically sets to an efficient setting which is icy cold in the winter or sweltering in the summer. So then I step into a house that is a horrible temperature and I need to beg my thermostat to fix it. I sort of hate the device. I wish it would listen to me.
